IN LOVING MEMORY OF SKYLA
Today is a very sad day for me…I had to say goodbye to my best buddy Skyla. Her weary legs just couldn’t keep up with the rest of her body, and she let me know it was finally time to go. So that’s exactly what we did.
The last 24 hours went something like this: Filet mignon, ice cream, long naps in the cool grass, lobster roll, yogurt, Dave Matthews, bananas, Pringles, lots of sunshine, a trip to the beach to watch and listen to those crashing ocean waves one last time, chirping birds in the trees, Maroon 5, more yogurt, watching the sunrise, belly rubs, lots of hugs, and some tears.
I often thought about what exactly I’d say about my Skyla as her time comes to an end here with me.
I guess it would go something like this. Skyla, thank you for providing me some very precious gifts over the past 12+ years of your life. One being this gift of photography….you sat patiently in front of the camera for many many thousands of pictures and videos while I figured out aperture, shutter speed, ISO, external flash, etc. Most of those pictures weren’t great, but I know we nailed a few! I got this from here…thank you!

The gift of companionship. We managed to go on quite a few adventures while you were here:
Hiked and explored many trails throughout New England
We were regular visitors at Lake Massabesic
Camped in the woods at Bar Harbor, Cape Cod, New Hampshire and many more places
Swam in rivers and the oceans at Cape Cod, Hampton beach, Rye Harbor and Maine (ok, maybe you just waded)
We sat atop Cadillac Mountain at Acadia National Park several times to take in those breathtaking views
We sat outside and looked up at that that rising full moon, and yes of course we photographed it!
We went “out and about” more times than I can count.
And many many more…

The gift of friendship. I’m actually quite amazed at the number of people (and pets!) we’ve interacted with and became good friends with over the past 12 years…all because of you. People that I never would have crossed paths with…if it weren’t for you. Some of these people will be friends for life…that I am certain. We’ve received countless wonderful comments, cards, and even gifts when you weren’t well or recovering from surgery. We learned a great deal about Newfoundlands, pets, health related topics from these new friends.
This is absolutely your greatest gift of all.
This is absolutely your greatest gift of all.
I want to thank my dear friends Donna Giusti and Donna Sweeney for not only helping me through this ordeal, but for your years of friendship and sacrifice. There's a special place in Skyla's heart for the both of you! There are so many others that have assisted me and offered advice with Skyla issues throughout the years but for fear of forgetting a few names…lets me just say thank you to all. You know who you are.
Of course I want to thank Skyla’s uncle Ron Brown and auntie Laurie Piersol Brown and my mom…for all that you’ve done for Skyla throughout her entire life…she loves you.

Skyla, you are now finally pain free. Rest in peace sweet girl…I love you.
Brian K Brown I am so sorry that Skyla has crossed Rainbow Bridge. The bond you both shared was so strong and obvious from your photos. When one of us loses a a four legged family member we all hurt so big hugs and much love xxx
The outpouring of love in these newfie groups I belong to for Brian K. Brown and his beautiful Skyla is incredible. It's amazing how a single majestic being can bring so many people together, even when we've never met them. Brian, our hearts ache for you, and we will all miss seeing your sweet Skyla. RIP Beautiful Girl.
